Black salt is used for cleansing, purification, banishing, protection and similar workings in Witchcraft.
Black salt may be poured onto window sills and doorways to act as a protective element. It is often sprinkled on the floor of a space, then swept away to absorb negative energy and remove it from the space.
Black salt is used in spell work for protection, banishing and in some cases hexes, although I don't personally recommend doing baneful work unless you are acquainted with the potential repercussions. Use black salt in circle casting for protection and purification.
